Paleo Kitchen

Getting Started

I felt lost in the grocery store the first week I tried following Paleo guidelines. Now that I have figured out what I like here are some of my must-haves (the brands I buy are usually based on what is available locally):

  • Almond Flour (Honeyville (very fine) or Bob’s Red Mill (a little more coarse))
  • Tapioca Flour (Bob’s Red Mill)
  • Coconut Flour (Bob’s Red Mill)
  • Golden Flax Meal (Bob’s Red Mill)
  • Almond or Cashew Butter (Depends on what is on sale – MaraNatha or Once Again usually)
  • Coconut Oil (I buy at Sam’s – 54oz for around $15)
  • Honey
  • Coconut Crystals (Wholesome Sweeteners – I was surprised to find it at Meijer)
  • Sea Salt
  • Gluten-Free Hoisin*
  • Sesame Seed Oil
  • Sriracha Sauce
  • Palm Shortening (Spectrum Vegan Shortening)
  • Earth Balance Soy Free Butter*
  • Hain Safflower Mayo* (you can make homemade as well, but I work full-time with two kiddos 🙂 )
  • Organic Ketchup*
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (Braggs)
  • White Vinegar
  • Coconut Amminos (Soy Sauce replacement)
  • Organic Unsweetened Applesauce Cups
  • Lots of Organic Fruits and Veggies
  • Raw Nuts (Pecans, Almonds, Cashews, etc) – I buy Pecans and Almonds at Sams
  • Healthy Meats (I buy mine from a local meat processing shop in bulk – they are not all grass-fed, but they are from an Amish farm – Merindorf Meats – the quality is fantastic and price for meat bundles is very reasonable)
  • Meijer Organic Seasonings
  • Cage Free Eggs
  • Coconut Milk (unsweetened regular and vanilla – So Delicious)
  • Almond Milk (unsweetened – Meijer)
  • Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips*
  • Sweet Potato Chips (Food Should Taste Good)
  • 100% Juice (for smoothies)
  • Applegate Chicken/Turkey Sausages*
  • Chebe Bread Mixes – (Breadstick or All Purpose – watch out for the cheese bread mix which contains dairy)

* isn’t 100% Paleo due to either cane sugar, soy-bean oil, or corn starch
